Warm and cozy sweaters are made to warm the body in the colder months of the years. A sweater is one of the most misunderstood and misnamed articles of clothing in the world. Sweaters are articles of clothing that are made specifically for the upper body, a sweater usually has arms and they can be of varying length, cap sleeve (just past the shoulder joint), 1/4 length sleeve, (ends between the shoulder and the elbow), elbow length (ends at the elbow) and full length sleeve (ends at the wrist).
A sweater is known as such because it is made of woven soft fibers. Sweaters are not the same as jerseys or jumpers, even though some think so. There are 2 main classes of sweaters, a cardigan that is open in front and a pullover, which has to be pulled over the neck in order to be put on or taken off.
The most popular fiber for a sweater is cotton, they can also be made from wool or cashmere other or any other soft woolen fibers. Cashmere is considered the finest wool from which a sweater can be made and is one of the softest and most comfortable sweaters found. It is also among the highest priced sweaters one can purchase. Wool sweaters are perhaps the warmest, but many wearers can not deal with the itching that these sweaters create.
The belief is that the very first sweaters came about somewhere in Northern Africa, as an addition to the leggings that were a very common piece of clothing hundreds of years ago. America first officially adopted the sweater in the 1890s after it was spotted being worn on the Isle of Jersey. At that time the sweater was a simple heavy knit shirt. CoCo Chanel who designed them from a jersey material pushed the sweater to the forefront of fashion. She did this out of necessity however, if she had used any other material at this particular time, she would have violated a sales non-compete contract that she had signed. Jackie Kennedy was a fan of the classic cardigan sweater in the 50s and 60s and often wore a string of pearls with her cardigan. Sweaters have endured through the years, and in places like the Isle of Wight the cable knit sweaters have always been a staple of their wardrobe.
From alpaca sweaters knitted in the high reaches of Peru by peasant women, to high end quality cashmere sweaters carried by specialty department stores to sweaters that are knitted at home for family members these sweaters are all designed to keep the wearer warm and comfortable and to also be a long term, wearable part of your wardrobe. Sweaters are one of the more versatile pieces of clothing that you can have. It can be worn with dresses, skirts or jeans. If it is paired with the right jewelry and accessories, it can be worn almost anywhere.
Since sweaters are so useful, especially if you live in colder climes, they make extremely good promotional gifts. You can easily have your company logo emblazoned on a sweater, and every time they use it, they will be reminded of your company. It doesn't get any better than that! For promoting your business, consider placing your company logo on a sweater.
