Fiesta parties are common events in many Latino communities nationwide. However, many Americans from other backgrounds are also adopting Spanish and Mexican traditions. Apart from downing a few burritos and margaritas, these borrowed activities also include fiesta parties such as Cinco de Mayo and Day of the Dead, among others.

As one of the most common fiesta parties also celebrated in the US, Cinco de Mayo falls on the 5th of May and is growing in popularity. Not to be confused with Mexico's Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo is the commemoration of Mexico's victory led by Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over the French forces headed by Napoleon III during the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. This occasion is celebrated with fairs and fiesta parties that include different activities such as singing, dancing, costumes, sporting events, fireworks, and several other forms of entertainment. Some of the most popular highlights during this celebration are Mariachi bands playing while people dance native Mexican dances such as the Mexican Hat dance, the Raspa and the Samba.

When attending celebrations for Cinco de Mayo, the post-Halloween holiday Day of the Dead, or any other fiesta event, you've got to wear a costume and join in the merry-making theme. Here are some costume ideas for fiesta parties below:
